Mahatma Gandhi's 'satyagraha' and 'non-cooperation' techniques achieved the seemingly impossible. Discuss.

Topic for 25th November 2021

Mahatma Gandhi's methods of 'satyagraha' and 'non-cooperation' achieved what were seemingly impossible targets - the mass mobilisation of Indians across social strata. Without this, the road to independence would've been quite different indeed. Do you agree? Why or why not? Explain.

To mobilise Indians across the social strata against a massive and exploitative machinery of the British Raj in India was a seemingly impossible task. The machinery was not just exploitative, it was a fraud in the sense of its self-projection as the saviour of Indians and being a tool for prosperity of India. The battle against it, and for freedom, was thus a complex one. Indians had to be convinced of the need to fight, and then made to come out and fight.
